AMBASSADOR ABIODUN RICHARDS ADEJOLA

 

PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS IN GENEVA

 

Prior to his appointment as Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the UN and other International Organisations in Geneva, Ambassador Adejola served as Deputy Head of Mission and Charge d`Affairs  at the Embassy of Nigeria to Ethiopia and Permanent Mission to the Economic Commission for Africa and the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

 

He has also served in various Directorates and Departments of the Nigerian Foreign Service in the course of his career, including as Directing Staff, Foreign Service Academy; United Nations Security Council Desk Officer at the International Organisations Directorate; Counsellor, Policy Planning, Research and Statistics; Special Assistant and Political Officer in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President; as Secretary, Committee on Rationalisation of Nigeria’s Representation in Missions Abroad; Acting Director, Policy Planning, Research and Statistics Division; Acting Director, Second United Nations Division, International Organisations Department; and Director, International Organisations Department respectively.

 

His Diplomatic tours outside Nigeria took him to Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago; London, United Kingdom; United Nations Headquarters in New York; and the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He has represented Nigeria in numerous regional and international meetings and conferences in more than forty countries and has a number of publications, while also exploring features writing in space technology, the environment and global security architecture. He also has abiding passion in multilateral disarmament negotiation, environment studies and global economic outlook.

 

Ambassador Adejola joined the Foreign Service of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1993 and holds a bachelors and masters degrees in international relations. He was born on 23 December 1964 in Abeokuta, Nigeria. His hobbies include: Reading, Travelling and Sports (Football and Boxing). He is a life member of the prestigious Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA).
